In November 2016 four members of the Garvey family were tragically killed in a light aircraft crash. They were travelling from Fairoaks Airport to Somerset to attend Mr Garvey's granddaughter's birthday party, when their light aircraft crashed south of Taunton.  The Garvey family lived in Woking and were highly regarded within the local community; the children were ex pupils of St Dunstan’s and St John the Baptist Schools and they were regular church goers at St Dunstan’s Church.

Their many friends have organised a series of events since then to remember the Garvey family and to commemorate them.  On the second anniversary of the tragedy, H G Wells were proud to host a Ball and auction in their memory and to raise money for the Honeypot Children’s Charity.   The evening was a fantastic success and raised a massive £7,343.54 thanks to the incredible support and generosity of the people who donated auction gifts and the people who attended the ball.

The Ball was held in our largest Room, the Wells Room; complete with a stage and dance floor, sophisticated lighting rig, high ceiling and a powerful sound system, it was the perfect choice for the auction and afterward a band and dancing.  The evening commenced with speeches and introduction with a shot of Sambuca for everyone.   A delicious three course dinner served over an hour and fifteen minutes, timed to finish for a raffle and the auction to commence.  Our in house executive head chef, Steve Tremblay, advised on the menu content using seasonal ingredients with a food style that perfectly suited the occasion, all dietary requirements were accommodated for, including separate choices for vegans, vegetarians and pescatarians.

Throughout the organisation of the event our experienced and enthusiastic sales team were on hand to help and offer advice. They have expert knowledge and experience in sourcing suppliers to dress the room with table decorations, candelabras, chair covers and even organised a photo booth for the night.   Our own mobile credit card machines were available too for organisers to take card payments for the auction prizes.

The Wells Room has its own fully stocked bar at very reasonable prices, we also have an extensive wine list, for clients to pre-order wines with their meal should they so wish.  The Reception screens were used to welcome and direct guests as they arrived, these are ideal for clients to display their logos and other information.

Testimonial

Thank you everyone at H G Wells for all your support and allowing us early access to the room on the day.   It was great to find that everything had been set up and was ready for us when we arrived.  The service was amazing, the bar staff were friendly and happy and everyone was very accommodating.  The evening was wonderful and a great success.  I just wanted to let you all know the final amount we raised was a phenomenal £7,343.54. Thank you so much for all your help!
